Google Chat What’s Happening
Google Chat, formally known as Hangouts is a communication service developed by Google designed for business environments used to provide remote access to systems exchanging files, text messaging, audio, and video formats. The service provides direct messaging of private communication channels sent or received by a user for group conversations and space which allows participants to create and design tasks sharing files in a central place in addition to chat services. It was first launched in 2017 as one of the apps that replaced Google Hangouts the cross platform instant messaging service originally a feature of Google + other being Google Meet a video communication service. It was renamed to Google Chat April 9, 2020, initially available to Google Workspace consumers, but in February 2021 Google began rolling out Google Chat in early access to regular consumer accounts until it became fully available in April in 2021. Google Workspace is a collection of cloud computing productivity collaboration tools that was developed and marketed by Google.
It consists of Gmail, calendar, contacts, Meet and Chat communication, currently for employee engagement, Drive for storage, and Google Docs Editor Suite for content creation. Depending on the edition Google Workspace may also include a digital interactive whiteboard also known as an interactive smartboard used with a standalone touchscreen computer used to independently perform tasks operations. On April 9 2020 Google rebranded Hangouts Chat to Google Chat. Following this rebranding along with similar changes for Hangouts Meet the Hangouts brand was designated to be removed from Google Workspace. Google deprecated the original Hangouts and replaced it with Chat on November 1, 2022. Google is visited 89.3 billion times per month. Google has 91.9 of the market share as of January 2022. Google processes over 8.5 billion searches per day, says Oberlo. In February 2022 Google announced plans for the final migration of all Google Workspace consumers from Google Hangouts to Google Chat which was finalized in 2022. In September 2022 Google announced all Hangouts data would be deleted by January 1, 2023. Google Chat features are divided into two sections: chat and spaces.
The char section contains direct conversations with other people or group conversations. Google Chat can be accessed from its website and app. Google Chat can also be accessed through its integration with Gmail website and app. In March 2022 Google announced that Chat would display banners warning users against potential phishing and malware attacks coming from personal accounts. This development for Google Chat was the latest attempt to prevent security breaches for users.
